Kansas grows more wheat, grinds more wheat into flour, and produces more wheatmiddlings than any other state in the nation. In 1997, Kansas grew a record 506 million bushels of wheat. One-fifth of that wheat production was used to manufacture flour in Kansas. According to the Sosland publication, Grain and Milling Annual 1997, the rated production capacity of Kansas flour mills is 152,440 hundredweights of flour per day. The estimated amount of millfeed produced in Kansas in 1997 was 735,729 tons or 10 % of the total amount produced in the United States.
