Abstract: We review the main properties of the chiral index. Its use as an asymmetry coefficient of multivariate probablity distributions is pointed out, and its application to measure the degree of chirality of rigid 3D molecular graphs is presented. Several extreme chirality sets are shown. Some open optimization problems are mentioned
