Tissue macrophages are innate immune cells with well-established roles in the primary response to pathogens, particularly abundant in capillary walls of lung (alveolar macrophages), Liver (Kupffer cells), spleen, brain, connective tissues, serous cavities (peritoneal macrophages) and bone marrow.
