Background: To compare serum uric acid levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with no obvious complications and healthy controls. Methods: 50 non-diabetics as controls and 50 clinically diagnosed type 2 diabetics with no obvious complications as cases were included in the study. Serum uric acid was estimated by Uricase/POD, End point assay method. The results were analyzed by using stat fax semi auto analyzer 3300 for serum uric acid. Results: The mean serum uric acid in type 2 diabetics is 6.48mg/dL as compared to controls which is 4.94mg/dl. The difference is significant statistically. (p = 0.01) Conclusion: Hyperuricemia is significantly associated with type-2 diabetes mellitus
