Abstract: The present paper focuses on the problem generating ability of prospective mathematics teachers. The tool used is a single item test, termed as Problem Generating Ability Tool (PGAT). Nearly 12 % of the sample prospective mathematics teachers come under high problem generating ability. Gender and academic qualifications of the prospective mathematics teachers do not differ significantly in the problem generating ability. With respect to social status of the prospective mathematics teachers, only Backward Communities group differed significantly from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes groups.
