His research interests are with machining process modeling and monitoring, especially related to cutting tool wear, vibrations, and advanced tool design. Prior to coming to Cal Poly Dr. Waldorf worked in Chicago as a quality/manufacturing engineer at ATF, Inc., a producer of fasteners and specialty cold-formed products for the automotive industry. He received his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996. Dr. Waldorf is a registered professional manufacturing engineer in California and is a member of ASME, SME, and ASEE
