• In 2011, Texas had 211,949 total referrals for child abuse and neglect. Of those, 178,605 reports were referred for investigation.8 • In 2011, 63,474 children were victims of abuse or neglect in Texas, a rate of 9.1 per 1,000 children, representing a 6.0% decrease from 2010.
