In-creasingly, therefore, agriculture is being recognized as part of the problem in international climate negotiations. While developed countries ’ emissions result mostly from industry, energy consumption and transport, FAO fi gures reveal that 74 % of all agricultural emissions originate in developing countries, and 70 % of the agricultural miti-gation potential can be realized in these same countries. Could agriculture therefore be part of the solution, par-ticularly in developing countries? Globally, three-quar-ters of all malnourished people depend on agriculture and would be directly affected by international mitiga-tion agreements aimed at agriculture.
