© American Journal of Ethnomedicine Assessment of Fungal Diversity and Screening for Antimicrobial Producing Fungi from the Soil Known for its Medicinal Value

The soil under study was selected, is known for its medicinal value. This driven us to explore the microflora associated with the soil. Since, fungus is known for the richest source of producing many bioactive molecules so; we confined our study on exploring the fungal diversity and metabolite producing fungus. The isolated fungal species were identified on morphologic, microscopic and molecular basis. Total of 15 fungal species were isolated and screened for antimicrobial activity. Out of 15 only three fungal species namely Acremonium, Penicillium and Aspergillus showed antimicrobial activity against various selected pathogens. Fungal diversity of Chambyal soil was compared and found similar with the mycology of Dead sea, known for treating skin disorders. This suggesting that the presence of these fungi and their secondary products might have played some role in the healing of the skin disorders
