Abstract- Experimentation is done on a standard induction motor, run as a single phase induction generator. The guidelines obtained from the performance of this trial machine are used to design and construct a novel prototype single phase induction generator. This novel design combines the concepts of ac tachogenerator, ac servomotor and dc self excited generator. It can generate at low sub synchronous speeds corresponding wind speeds being of the order of two to three meters/sec. Utility of this machine for converting wind power to electrical power for household consumption is put forth as a novel concept in this field.
