For periodica!ly operating electronic equipments, using solid-liquid phase change cooling might be a promising alternative. Aiming at this possibility, we pursued an ana-lytica l solution for the melting heat transfer under natural convection controlled regime in a rectangular enclosure with discrete heating at constant temperature. Effects of wall con-duction, heat source dimension on the melt-ing process are discussed. Results would he usefu l to the thermal design of the cooling system. I
