Abstract –It is often necessary to perform denoising in speech processing system operating in highly noisy environment. Wavelet transform is one of the most promising techniques used in signal processing, due to its ability to decompose signals and to reduce noise having non-stationary characteristics. In the present work wavelet thresholding algorithm has been used to choose good wavelet. A simple novel method is proposed to compute the optimum threshold value. Mean square error at different values of SNR is computed to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The result obtained is compared with the existing thresholding method. Simulation is done on MATLAB platform
