Appraisal of Adoption Level of Basic Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Concepts in Schools and

This paper investigated the adoption level of basic Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) concepts in schools and colleges in Ekiti State. A descriptive research design of the survey type was used in the study. The sample consisted of 67 teachers of (TVET), and 8 officials of the Board for Technical Vocational Education and Training (BTVET), randomly selected, using purposive random sampling technique. The instrument used consisted of 39 items. It was content validated and thereafter pre-tested yielding a reliability co-efficient of 0.87. Frequency counts, percentage score, ranking order and t-test statistics were used for the data analysis. The Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study reveals, that, skill development, knowledge and attitude can be acquired through classroom instructions, observation, imitation, constant practice and adaptation. The results also indicated that TVET teachers do not concern themselves with learners interest in the teaching and learning process, but are concerned with learners ability to acquire saleable skills. It was also revealed that TVET students performance are not evaluated with performance based tests and checklisting. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that, more attention should be placed on the teaching and learning of the basic concepts of Technical Vocational Education and Training in schools and colleges in Ekiti State.
