Twitter is playing a growing role in Australian public communication – this much we know. We have been able to observe its use in contexts from the Labor leadership spills through the Australian election to the Queensland floods, and in each case, the relevant hashtags saw substantial action from major political and institutional actors and everyday users alike. But as in the old story of the blind men and the elephant, while we have a good understanding of these individual bits, we need to understand the Australian Twittersphere more comprehensively, so we can put these individual events into context.
