Lexical stress and phrasal accent comprise two levels of prominence in English. Phrasal accent is primarily cued by F0 while lexical stress is jointly cued by duration, intensity, and spectral properties (Sluijter & van Heuven 1996). Earlier studies with non-native speakers have shown that they are not very different from native speakers in their perception of lexical stress on words with phrasal accent, i.e. words in citation form
