Jan-Feb 2014 EDITION Use of membrane to treat car wash wastewater

Abstract: As water is becoming a rare resource, the onsite reuse and recycling of car wash wastewater are practiced in many countries as a sustainable solution to reduce the overall urban water demand. Car washing is one of the activity which consumes large quantity of water approximately 400 liters for one car only, when washed by hose pipe; with conventional car wash facilities it consumes 150 liters; but if we can treat the car wash wastewater and reuse the same for car washing, according to one survey it can consume only 10-50 liters of drinking water. Water and wastewater recycling and reuse as increasingly been integrated in planning and development of India, particularly for agriculture and landscape irrigation help to protect public health, increase water availability, present postal pollution and enhance water resources and nature conservation policies. In India several scientific technologies were applied for wastewater recycling and reuse. In this paper, a car wash wastewater treatment system, which used Pretreatment, UF & RO module, to obtain reusable water was studied
