(TELT) study involved eleven programs ranging from preservice and induction to alternative routes and inservice programs. More than 700 teachers in these programs responded to surveys. Researchers interviewed and observed 160 program participants in their classrooms. Their primary interest was to discover what teachers learned while participating in these different programs. The study focused on two subject areas--mathematics and writing. Many of the findings from the TELT study fly in the face of conventional wisdom about teacher preparation.
