HPC applications executed in cluster environments often produce large quantities of data that need to be stored for later analysis. One important issue with the performance of these applications is the transport and storage of this data. To provide an efficient data storage facility, cluster systems may provide a Parallel File System in which applications can store their data. These systems aggregate disk and network bandwidth of several individual machines in order to improve the performance of data storage and retrieval.
