The accuracy of meteorological measurements cannot be determined because there is no demonstrable true value wi th which to com-pare the operational measurement. As an alternative the functional precision (re-peatabili ty) of measurements is determined to provide a means of evaluating the vari-ability of measurements in a synoptic field.
