There are three main parts to this paper. These review the rationale for the use of animal models of psychiatric disorders in general, and look in detail at two procedures involving operant conditioning, one which has been used as a model for clinical anxiety and one which might contribute to the development of treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. It is concluded that behaviour analysis makes a continuing contribution to animal models of psychiatric disorders, and that the interplay between the two informs and develops both fields
