Stemming from the centuries-old and well known effects of Cannabis on intestinal motility and secre-tion, research on the role of the endocannabinoid system in gut function and dysfunction has received ever increasing attention since the discovery of the cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous ligands, the endocannabinoids.
