In Korea, its leaves are used as a garnish and colorant for foods and as a traditional medicine for the treatment of asthma, cough, sore throat, dyspersia, insomnia, and diabetes.1,2 The EtOH extract of P. frutescens var. acuta was reported to have anti-allergic and anti-bacterial effects.3,4 Terpenoids, and phenolic compounds were also reported.5-7 In our continuing search for bioactive secondary metabolites from Korean medicinal plants, we investigated the constitu-ents of the leaves of P. frutescens var. acuta.
