households use private water supplies such as wells, springs and cisterns. The Virginia Household Water Quality Program (VAHWQP) began in 1989 with the purpose of improving the water quality of Virginians reliant on private water supplies. Since then, the program has conducted drinking water clinics in 86 counties across Virginia and has analyzed samples from more than 14,500 households. In 2007, the Virginia Master Well Owner Network (VAMWON) was created to support the VAHWQP. Virginia Cooperative Extension agents and volunteers participate in a 1 day VAMWON training workshop that covers private water system maintenance and protection
