The Top 500 web page tracks the evolution of supercomputing worldwide. It has a database of the 500 most powerful supercomputers around the world over the last two decades. The five hundred most powerful supercomputers in the world have been parallel computers for about two decades. Moreover, the number of processors (cores) per system continues to increase. The following figure shows the distribution of systems by size (number of processors) for the dates June 2005 (left curve, in blue) and June 2010 (right curve, in red).
