This report presents SAT and ACT exami-

nation participation and performance data for graduating seniors in Texas and the United States in public and nonpublic schools com-bined. College admissions examination results are used by colleges and universities to make admissions decisions, to place students in ap-propriate freshman courses, and to award scholarships to students. In Texas, moreover, public school results are used in determining eligibility for student exemptions from Texas Success Initiative assessment requirements and to acknowledge districts and campuses through the public school accountability sys-tem for high levels of performance. Results presented in this report were ob-tained from summary reports released annual-ly by the College Board and by ACT, Inc., to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The re-sults are based only on the most recent exami-nations taken by students identified by the College Board and ACT, Inc., as expecting to graduate in the reporting year.
