• Zambia’s historical trend of declining public agricultural research and development (R&D) investments continued during 2001–08 due to weakened government and donor support. • The country’s agricultural research capacity also deteriorated during 2001–06, both in terms of numbers of full-time equivalent researchers and levels of educational qualications.
