Abstract. Published with Ramanujan’s lost notebook are several partial manuscripts, some of which evidently were intended to be portions of papers that were published by him. In the present paper, we provide a brief survey of the latter partial manuscripts, accompanied by speculation on why Ramanujan never included them in his papers. In the last half of this paper, we examine one particular entry that was clearly originally contem-plated for his paper, On certain trigonometric sums and their applications in the theory of numbers. We offer a proof for a more precise rendition of Ramanujan’s claim
