Abstract—This paper proposes a holistic framework to de-sign and operate secure, real-time, and computationally effi-cient cyber-physical systems. The proposed framework com-bines control-theoretic methods, information security notions and computational models to characterize tradeoffs among different design and operation objectives. The intricate relation among control performance, system security and platform schedulability is captured through a minimal set of interface variables, and it is argued that security mechanisms and control algorithms need to be co-designed and co-managed with the embedded platform, so as to avoid the design of algorithms that are too expensive to implement on the embedded platform, or significantly impede desig...
