Summary. This project evaluated the types, quantities, and location of wood residues and other woody materials that could be available for use as bio-energy or other applications in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The residue information was collected through the survey of primary and secondary wood manufacturers, landfills, and loggers in Virginia, and then incorporated into a GIS system so that locations and quantities of various residues were known. By identifying the location and quantities of various woody materials in the most cost efficient manner, this project has the potential to develop new markets and increase jobs in a number of rural areas.
