We present the historic and recent scientific progress in the field of adaptive telecommunication systems. The general inspirational vision in the research field is presented, along with by the major problems that need to be solved in order to create such a communication system. We also give some rea-sons, why this kind of communication is not yet used widely and show what still needs to be improved on to enable the broad usage by non-technical users.
