The atmosphere contains solid and liquid particles (aerosols) and clouds, which interact with the incoming and outgoing radiation in a complex and spatially very variable manner. Aerosol particles are a largely natural, though highly variable, component of our atmosphere. Aerosols affect our environment at the local, regional, and global levels. There are many factors that are known to influence climate, both natural and human-induced. The increase in concentrations of greenhouse gases and aerosols through human activity is of particular concern.
