Objective: To evaluate the relationship between open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and mortality in a black popu-lation at 9-years ’ follow-up. Design: Population-based cohort study of 4092 black participants (aged 40-84 years at baseline) in the Barba-dos Eye Studies. Open-angle glaucoma was defined by visual field defects and optic disc damage, based on stan-dardized examinations and photograph gradings. Ocu-lar hypertension was defined by an intraocular pressure greater than 21mmHg or treatment, without OAG dam-age.Mortalitywas ascertained fromdeath certificates.
