This paper presents a performance analysis of the Identier Splitting Algorithm combined with polling, a contention resolution scheme used to inform the Base Sta-tion about the bandwidth needs of the Mobile Station in a wireless ATM network. An analytical model leads to the evaluation of performance parameters which determine the throughput and the access delay of the algorithm for dierent system parame-ters. This analysis is used to investigate the in uence of the system parameters on the performance, from which guidelines for parameter tuning can be derived.
