Automated Digital Meter Reading System using GSM

process of delivering electricity to the consumer. Conventional electricity billing system requires lot of manpower and also it is a time consuming process and error prone. The development of an automatic electricity billing system using GSM is presented in this paper. This system monitors and records the power meter reading and the consumed units of electric power will be automatically send to the electricity board. Using this information, bill amount is calculated and sent to the consumer via sms. If the bill is not paid within the specified time period, power supply will be disconnected and it will be reconnected in response to bill payment. Data base server can store the current month data and also all previous month data for future use. The main advantages of the proposed system is that it requires less manpower, low operating cost and provides more data security.
