The populations of cicadas existing in wheat crops of Ol-tenia, represent 2-67 % from the total insect pests. Arid climate (frequent drought years) from sandy soils area, the low level of crop technologies, the neighbourhood with perennial grasses are the main factors determining a high rate of the increasing of insect populations. Under such conditions the populations could reach 255 insects/square meter.Qualitatively, the populations are made up of a basic nucleus of Psamotettrix striatus (45 % at ªimnic and 91 % at Dãbuleni), and Yavesella pellucida (49 % at ªimnic and 6 % at Dãbuleni), beside other 17 different species, of which at least ten species are known as biological vectors for viruses and mycoplasmas
