supported the efforts of seven community-based coalitions to improve the management of pediatric asthma in their areas. The program—including research activities to evaluate the coalitions and their impact—ran from 1999 to 2008. The coalitions implemented comprehensive asthma management strategies to improve the medical care, education and support of asthmatic children and their families in low-income neighborhoods and to stimulate environmental and other policy initiatives to increase the community’s capacity to control the disease
