1 Indicators and environmental reporting

This paper presents current and future trends and requirements for environmental reporting. It gives a brief overview of environmental management tools and their applications, and presents results of various case studies on the assessment of environmental performance. The results are developed through a series of projects in Norwegian industrial companies and in local communities. The projects have laid the foundation of environmental accounting and reporting systems both in industry and in the local communities. The paper presents environmental performance indicators, and focuses on future challenges on developing indicators for eco-efficiency measures, both for production processes and for products. It also gives an overview of coming international requirements to eco-efficiency reporting and sustainability reporting
