Abstract: Practical reliability-based designs are illustrated for a footing foundation and an anchored sheet-pile wall. Unlike limit state design using specified partial factors, a reliability-based design is able to reflect varying parametric sensitivities from case to case, in addition to accounting for the standard deviations and the correlation structure of the input parameters.
