The changing of rural towns into more urban areas has meant a need for improved stormwater treatment. Lincoln Township can be divided into two broad areas, old and new Lincoln. The old area of Lincoln uses the method of simply diverting the stormwater to the nearby waterway. This method is not as acceptable as it used to be, due to increased contaminant loadings and higher expectations being placed on the waterways. New areas of development have been consented with agreement to produce onsite stormwater treatment systems which prevent the development from having too much of an effect on the local waterway’s stream health.
