This study examines the association between CEO reputation and the strength of corporate governance across firms. We provide evidence that firms whose CEO reputation is higher have weaker governance compared to firms whose CEO reputation is lower. This study contributes to the literature by providing (i) evidence that CEO attributes play a vital role in explaining corporate governance, and (ii) additional evidence that governance can be regarded as endogenous. In addition, it adds to our understanding of the heterogeneity in the strength of corporate governance across firms
