The objective of the study was to evaluate the growth and dry matter production of components of sorghum/cowpea intercrop at Kano, Nigeria. The treatments consisted of thirty cowpea genotypes differing in maturity periods and growth habits which were intercropped with local sorghum in 1:1 or single alternate row arrangement. The results revealed that plant height, number of days to maturity and dry matter of sorghum was not affected by cowpea genotype. The percent plant count after emergence and at harvest of the genotypes was not affected by sorghum intercropping; the mean values were 91 % and 86%, respectively.
