Nowadays data communication is growing rapidly. Among them multimedia and Internet communications by wireless systems are the most popular. So the architecture of the wireless networks is varying based on that. In this paper we review UMTS based on connection to Internet. We review UMTS architecture and functionality of its layer 2 with focus on RLC, then its error recovery mechanisms and transport channels. We consider data flow for non-transparent RLC and transparent MAC. Finally we simulate the effects of RLC protocol and erroneous MA
