Among the major concepts that characterise this round table and the conference are Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Sustainable Development (SD) and Higher Education (HE). The paper considers the relationships between these concepts with examples that illustrate their interactions at different levels: national (Australia); international; and local (specific university). The discussion starts within the Australian context to examine challenges and barriers for including ESD in TVET. It then moves to the international context to explore TVET – HE relationships and then, an example of one university program that integrates ESD is analysed.
