Abstract – In this paper, we apply a Raptor code-based forward error correcting scheme right above the medium access control (MAC) layer in order to ensure the reliability of the video multicast over IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs). Both Raptor code rate and physical layer (PHY) transmission rate are dynamically adapted according to the channel condition. We consider a number of MAC schemes for data transmission in order to enhance the efficiency. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated in terms of the perceived video quality, i.e., peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR)
