Technological advances and evolving social circumstances have rendered e-learning an increasingly attractive and prosperous form of knowledge acquisition in recent years. However, the benefits of flexible, online, distance learning are in danger of being outweighed by the disadvantages resulting from reduced opportunities for group-oriented, collaborative learning. This paper reports on ongoing funded research work that aims to partially compensate for the lack of face-to-face contact between learners by employing adaptivity to actively support the collaborative learning process. The paper provides a general outline of the project’s goals, ongoing work and foreseen outcomes, as well as on the planned case studies
