Web micronews syndication has gained vast popularity, as news media, weblogs, and frequently updated websites pub-lish their content in XML based micronews formats such as RSS and Atom. The state of the art in micronews syndi-cation, however, is far from the publish-subscribe paradigm, where users receive asynchronous notications about content updates. Instead, subscribers of micronews feeds have to re-peatedly fetch entire feeds from the servers to detect updates. This pull based dissemination incurs long update detection times, consumes enormous bandwidth resources, and leads to poor performance and scalability of the system.
