Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters and response to selection for body weight at 11 weeks of age in the Ardennaise chicken breed. Estimations were realized over four generations. From an assumed animal model including fixed effects of hatching year and sex interaction, two models were derived; one included direct genetic and residual random effects; the other included, in addition, random maternal genetic effect. Additive direct heritability was found to be moderate (h = 0.30), suggesting2a that selection may be effective in improving body weight and related feed efficiency in our breed.
