This paper summarizes the innovations that are considered towards the development of autonomous plug –and-play wireless access nodes. These nodes are to be utilized in all-IP environments, performing a wide range of functions such as macro-mobility management, AAA (Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting) procedures, provision of secure communications, resources management, applications logic execution, etc. It is demonstrated that the described idea focusing on intelligent access nodes removes the need for intelligent core networks.
