At the end of 2004, OSi completed the capture of large-scales vector data covering the State. This project took a large part of the organisations resource over the last 10 years. In parallel, however, a range of work has been progressed in improving the data: A fundamental re-engineering of the data model; The overhauling of editing tools; The implementation of rigorous integrity-checking algorithms; The implementation of a sample-based quality assessment programme; The commencement of a programme of data improvement; The rollout of supply and customer access systems to enable wider access to the data; and The collection of new data types. At this stage in the programme, OSi believes that it can consolidate lessons learned which will be of value to other countries and organisations, given that all data providers are concerned with continuous improvements to data and process. This paper therefore provides a narrative of the work done, the logic for it, and the lessons learned
