Nanomaterials have attracted great interest in recent years because of the unusual mechanical, electrical, electronic, optical and magnetic properties endowed by confining the dimensions of such materials and because of the combination of bulk and surface properties to the overall behavior. The high surface to volume ratio of these materials has significant implications with respect to energy storage devices of electrochemical active sites (e.g. batteries, ultracapacitors, etc.). The diverse tunable properties of nanomaterials also offer potential promise for hydrogen storage.
